catalina.jpgYo soy Catalina . . . soy una ARTISTA!

Hello, my name is Catalina and I will be telling you about my experiences while participating in this mural project. I signed up for this class because I have always wanted to be part of something that will go down in history, and this mural will. Sure it’s only Marrs history, but you have to start somewhere right? I think that with everyone’s help, this mural will be breathtaking and quite a wonder to look at. I hope I can do more murals like this one, but I will remember this as one of my first.

Catalina,

Today I woke up at 6:30 and didn’t leave for school until 8:50. My little sister made us late and so I was more than a little irritable when I got to school. The first thing I saw once we got outside to start on our mural was the huge, blank wall looming in the shadows in front of me. I started on various projects for our wall, but by the middle of the day, we were all sweating because of the scorching sun that was beating down on us. Then we took a break and I had a chat with a guy named Seamus. He was quite amusing. After that, Seamus and I went to go help the custodian, Irene, put up tables for a meeting they were having. Then I went home.

Catalina,

Today I woke up at 7:30 and left the house at 8:40. When we got outside to our wall, which was looking a little less blank, we noticed that it was drastically cooler than the day before. It was also quite windy and it didn’t help that our papers were blowing about everywhere. We began to draw more people and then transfer the drawings to the wall. I never even told you what the theme of our mural is, have I? The theme of our mural is diversity and we’re going to have lots of different people with different religious symbols and things of that sort. I think that once it’s done it will look phenomenal and all the grades following us will appreciate it greatly. We got our snack and then we went back outside t start outlining our pictures in paint. We used a nice golden honey color for our outline and I think it looks very pretty. That’s basically what we did today.

Catalina,

Today I awoke at 7:10 and left for school around 8:45. Today we put on lots of sun block because our teacher said that it would be tremendously hot. Trust me, it was. We then quickly painted some more people on our wall and then we got to go back inside. We had our snack, which included some delectable Doritos in my case, and then colored a picture taken of our wall by Mr. Auch Moedy. Me and some other kid’s also had to scrub some pencil marks off the floor with a really weak cleaning spray. After that we went back to color the rest of our pictures. That pretty much wraps it up.

Catalina,

Today I woke up at 7:00 and left for school at 8:45. ~Once we got out to our wall, we started filling in grass and trees with some miraculous green paint. ~Then we got to go back inside, had our snack and then got to watch the U.S. soccer team play Czech republic. Go U.S.A.!!!

Catalina,

It’s my last day on this mural project and it is absolutely depressing. This mural fills a hunger for art that I have and I fear that if I leave this project I may become horribly famished. I have had such fun times while painting and drawing out there and I have to say that I have become surprisingly attached to our wall, which is looking quite snazzy if I might add. I am very happy that I got to be part of something that will last forever, or at least awhile. It didn’t hurt that the kids who were helping were pretty funny either. I know that even though I’m going to depart and start anew at Beveridge in the fall, I’ll still come back to see our fabulous mural. Sorry to get poetic on you, but, parting is such great sorrow. Until we meet again.
