Well, here we are another summer dealing with a large wall and hot weather. However, I did manage to skip out on the first week of this three week class as I got married. But, I couldn’t stay away to long, so here I am. This year our theme was “Discover South Omaha” and we decided to use old South Omaha postcards to bring about the theme. We also incorporated three South Omaha J Doe’s, Cinco De Mayo dancers, and a postcard written to the students explaining more about placeSouth Omaha.
The same students stayed with the mural project all three weeks, so they all got to take pride in the progress of the mural from start to finish. Each student that worked with us had a different ability. We had some that we could trust on the most detailed areas and others that needed guidance as to what they needed to be doing, however they all brought the delight of summer and the motivation to leave something behind as a representation of what they did, one hot summer in South Omaha. |

Hello, it's me, Mr Auch Moedy and once again we have decided to create a mural at RM Marrs. It was up to the students to create the plan and decide what will become of the 2007 painting. The theme was "Discover South Omaha." Many of our students are familiar with South Omaha as it exists around the south 24th street corridor, which happens to be on the National Register of Historic Places. Our goal was to broaden the knowldege of students to how big South Omaha really is and a little about its history. These young artists collaborated to research and design the mural to teach their fellow students. When you
take last years diverstiy mural and this years mural we begin to see a comprehensive view of this special place, its people, architecture, and history. I hope you enjoy this mural as much as last years, I know I did. |
