YIPPEE! - Definition: sound emoted when a district receives a competitive grant for $950,000 to provide professional development in Teaching American History.
OPS was fortunate to partner with UNO, the Nebraska State Historical Society, The Library of Congress, NETV, various museums and educational institutions in creating Project OMAHA (Omaha Metropolitan American History Association) whose main goal is to provide educators with coursework in American History and assist teachers in attaining their masters.
Components
Seminars on a variety of time periods and concepts- from Colonialism to Cold War and everything in between
Website development maintained by NETV that will also produce lesson plan CD ROMs for every teacher and videotape model lessons in actual classrooms
AP support and training for new and veteran AP teachers
Benefits
The grant will cover stipends, fees, or substitute pay for teachers to attend all of the components. Although the grant specified activities in specific months from the data gathered 18 months ago, we would like to tailor the offerings to meet your needs.
